A new flagship arrives. Reviewers call it revolutionary. The internet fills with camera comparisons, benchmark charts and AI features that promise to change everything. Suddenly, last year's phone feels old, even if it still does everything you need.
It's easy to believe that spending more money automatically means a better experience. Sometimes that's true. More often, it isn't.
After spending almost a year with the realme GT 6, I realised this review isn't really about a smartphone. It's about understanding what we actually need, and how easily marketing convinces us otherwise.
One phone, replacing a phone I already liked.
Before the GT 6, I was using the realme X3 SuperZoom (12GB/256GB). It served me well, but one thing had become obvious: I needed more storage. My photography, videos and everyday files had grown enough that 512GB wasn't a luxury anymore; it was becoming a necessity.
I also looked at alternatives like the OnePlus 13R and the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. In the end, I stayed with realme. Not because it was the safest choice, but because the company had already earned my trust. Over the years I've genuinely liked many of their products, especially their audio accessories, and almost everyone who had actually used the GT 6 spoke highly of it.
What caught my attention wasn't just the specifications. It was something much simpler: the way people who'd actually used it talked about it.
512GB was the number that mattered most. Between photography, video and everyday files, storage had quietly become the thing I was managing around instead of working with. The GT 6's 16GB/512GB configuration was the first upgrade in years that solved a real problem instead of just a newer one.
This phone feels far more expensive
than it actually is.
That's what people kept saying before I bought it. After a year, I think they were right.
No Battery Anxiety
The biggest surprise wasn't the processor. It wasn't the display. It wasn't even the cameras. It was the battery.

Much like my MacBook Pro changed the way I think about charging a laptop, the GT 6 completely changed how I think about charging a phone.
The battery lasts comfortably through demanding days, and when it finally does need charging, the included 120W charger almost makes waiting irrelevant.
It doesn't just charge quickly.
It changes your habits.
You stop thinking, "I need to charge my phone overnight." Instead it becomes, "I'll plug it in while I get ready." Within a surprisingly short time, you're back to almost full.
That freedom is difficult to appreciate until you've lived with it.

Some phones feel fast
during the first week.
Then software updates arrive. Storage fills up. Animations become inconsistent. Apps begin taking just a little longer.
The GT 6 hasn't given me that feeling.
Everything still feels responsive. Whether it's everyday apps, photography, editing photos before sending them to my Mac, multitasking or simply navigating through the interface, the phone still feels eager to keep up.
It's not just benchmark fast. It's consistently pleasant. And that's far more important.
Fast in week one. Then updates arrive, storage fills up, animations start to stutter, and apps take just a little longer to open.
A year in, everything still feels responsive: everyday apps, photo edits, multitasking, just moving through the interface.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, built on a 4nm process, is doing the quiet work behind that consistency. It's not the chip flagship marketing gets excited about. It's the chip that's still keeping up a year later, which matters more.
Cameras that punch above their price.
I'm a photographer. Naturally, cameras matter to me.
I won't spend pages discussing dynamic range charts or pixel level comparisons, because that isn't how I judge cameras in real life.
What I will say is this: the GT 6 has one of the best camera systems I've used anywhere near its price.

Does it occasionally make me wish for a little more consistency? Yes. There are moments where you can tell this isn't a ₹70,000 flagship.
But every single time I start wanting more, I'm reminded of what I actually paid. Around ₹30,000 for the 16GB + 512GB version. And suddenly the conversation changes.
At that price, I genuinely struggle to think of another phone that delivers such a complete photographic experience.
I don't judge cameras by charts. I judge them by what they let me create, and by whether I reach for the phone instead of a proper camera. The GT 6 passes that test more often than it should, for the price.
A 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 50MP telephoto and an 8MP ultrawide: on paper, that's a serious rear camera system for the money. In use, it's the OIS and the telephoto that I reach for most, on shoot days when a proper camera isn't in the bag.
Two things I keep coming back to.
Never worrying about battery. A charger that changed how I charge, not just how fast. Cameras that keep surprising me for the price. A phone that never stopped feeling fast.
₹32,999 at launch for the 16GB/512GB variant in India. I paid closer to ₹30,000. Flagship level thinking, at a price ordinary people can actually justify.

Curved displays divide opinion.
They certainly did mine.
For about a day. Then I forgot about it.
What remained was an excellent display. Bright. Smooth. Vibrant. Comfortable to read outdoors. Responsive enough that moving between my 120Hz phone and my MacBook never feels jarring.
When a display disappears and simply lets you enjoy the content, I think it's doing its job well.

The speakers are loud. The industrial design still looks modern. The phone feels well put together.

One feature I especially enjoy is Pro Video mode. The cinematic recording options, and particularly the aspect ratio choices, remind me of shooting with anamorphic lenses. It's a small creative touch, but it's one I genuinely appreciate.
No product is perfect.
If I could change a few things, I'd start with these.
I wish it had proper IP68 water and dust resistance. That would have made an already excellent package even more complete.
This isn't unique to realme, but it becomes obvious after a few months. Unlike iPhones or Samsung Galaxy devices, finding quality cases and accessories becomes increasingly difficult over time, both offline and online.
The cameras, while outstanding for the price, also aren't perfectly consistent in every situation.
But again, price matters. And context matters.

This review isn't really about the GT 6.
It's about how we buy technology.
Every year we're told we need another flagship. Another camera. Another AI feature. Another reason to spend more.
Sometimes those upgrades are genuinely worthwhile. Most of the time, they're simply convincing enough.
The GT 6 reminded me that a product doesn't need to be the most expensive to be genuinely excellent.
It doesn't carry the social status of an iPhone. It doesn't have Samsung's enormous accessory ecosystem. But neither of those things make a photograph better. Neither makes your messages faster. Neither suddenly transforms your daily life.
The GT 6 represents something I wish more companies pursued
Delivering flagship level thinking at a price ordinary people can actually justify.
